2. Ask the vendor what they don't carry

This was the game-changer. If a vendor claims to carry "everything," I ask which brands they're not authorized to sell. The ones who hedge and deflect? They're not getting my order. The ones who say, "We're strong in electrical components, but for precision measurement you should go to a specialist" — those are the ones I trust.

3. Verify the calibration certificate before accepting delivery

For any instrument that affects product quality or safety, we now check the calibration certificate against the manufacturer's database before the item goes into service. It's a 10-minute step. It would've caught the counterfeit DP transmitter immediately.

4. Keep the old Mitutoyo manual in the shop
